A delegation of ‘Voice of Martyrs’ (VOM), a non-profit organisation called on the Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Patil and handed over a memorandum to him demanding Rs1 crore for the betterment of the dependants of the martyrs.
Voice of Martyrs is an organization working to provide immediate help and rehabilitation of martyr's families of armed forces, para military forces during war and undeclared war.
The memorandum demanded Rs1 crore as immediate relief for the martyr families. As given to the sportsmen, the dependant of the martyrs should also be given a help of Rs2 to 5 crore, besides Government jobs to at least one member from the family and reserve seats in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Assemblies, demanded VOM.
The delegation was led by founder and president of VOM, Vijay Sangwan, who said, “We must be proud of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our country. The nation owes a lot for such families who lost theirs sons, brothers or husbands while fighting a battle on the borders or elsewhere.”
The organisation also has sent letters to the President of India, Prime Minister, besides the Chief Ministers of various States. The delegation has threatened of launching a stir if their demands are not met with on priority.
